A big congratulations goes out to Indeah Clark, Liss Finney and Lily Ward, finalists in the Maitland Regional Art 2014 Brenda Clouten Memorial Travelling Scholarship for a Young Achiever in the Visual Arts. The Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts students are 3 of 4 finalists in the running for the prize.

Their work will be exhibited at Maitland Regional Art Gallery from Friday 28 November until Sunday 22 February 2015.

Advanced Diploma Photomedia at JHH

Currently on show at the John Hunter Hospital are works by Advanced Diploma Photomedia students.

For the second year running, the hospital engaged the students to create six unique murals with the theme of connecting different people to one another.

The works will be on display until February 2015.

Currently on exhibition at the John Hunter Hospital is a project by Advanced Diploma of Fine Art Photomedia students. The piece was created during a visit on the grounds of the hospital where discarded items were collected. Inspired by these treasures, the students then continued to collect items from TAFE to produce the final work.

Maggie's Prize

Congratulations to Maggie Hensel-Brown who won the Brenda Coulton Art Prize at Maitland Regional Art Gallery. Maggie gets to put on a solo exhibition of her work at the Regional Gallery in a month's time!

The entrants, most of whom were Newcastle Art School students and graduates and Newcastle Uni students, included Kelly Barlin, Ashlee Bucholtz,  Anna Buxton Soldal, Kelsey Fletcher, Thomas Hadland, Jean-Louis Kocher, Jesse Neale, Eleanore Plummer, Alexandra Robinson, Sarah Maree Stein, Laura Taylor.

Sophie Toupein - Whatever will happen will happen

Sophie Toupein's exhbition of paintings "Whatever will happen will happen' opens tonight in the Front Room Gallery.

Sophie is the recipient of the Ford Grant, sponsored by Chris and Helen Ford, which supported her to complete work for this exhibition after graduating from the Advanced Diploma in Fine Art. Her work will also be showcased at the Damien Minton Gallery in Sydney in the near future.

The painings use transparent and translucen, light filled layers of colour. They are abstractions that have hints of forms brought out by marks or fluid gestures, teasing at something through veils of colour.

The exhibition is open 11-5 Tuesday to Friday and 12-4 on Saturday until the 3rd August.

Welcome back for 2011.

The first exhibition of the year in the Front Room Gallery is a selection of work from the finalists of the Ford Grant. They are Stevi Cannon, Brooke Stevens, Jane Robinson, Jesse Neale, Alison Smith and Kaitlyn O'Leary. The exhibition is a strong combinations of drawings, prints, sculptures, photos and paintings from these artists who are graduates of the Advanced Diploma of Fine Arts.

The exhibition is on until the 25th February.

We are reviving our blog and hoping to use it to promote the activities of the Newcastle Art School and the Front Room Gallery.

Additionally we have started our Facebook pages and hope they will link well to allow people to know about what we are doing.

Tonight was the opening of Resolved, our Advanced Diploma Drawing exhibition at Podspace.

Only a small selection of work was able to be shown from a strong and diverse program. The pieces are a small but powerful selection from the studios. Drawing supports the studio work, in that the ideas are developed and evolve in drawing, but they also take on a life of their own and effectively show another side of the coin that is art practice.
